Ireland - The Great Hunger
This week, I would like to write about chapter 6 of Ireland. Chapter 6 is about the Great Hunger, thousands of people died because of hunger in the west Ireland in the 1840s. In 1795 and 1798, the Irish people fought the British with the help of French ships and soldiers, but they defeated and most Catholics were killed. Three years later, the Act of Union made Ireland and Britain one countly in London. For a hundred years after this, Catholic Irishman and Protestants came into conflict because they have different opinions about the Act of Union. At this time, the Great Hunger started in the west of Ireland. Many Catholics had nothing to eat. The most of them went to America to find a new better life, but hundreds of them died on the ships to move. When these poor Irish people died, the Irish language nearly died with them. Most Catholic people spoke English and Irish teacher had to use English in school. At that period, many people thought that Irish is not important. Howe
